Parks & Recreation
Johnsburg offers open space and parks for all to enjoy. From walking paths to ball fields, playground equipment and picnic pavilions, Johnsburg offers a wealth of recreational activities. Two of our larger parks have soccer, basketball and baseball facilities as well as playground equipment and picnic pavilions. These facilities can be reserved for family gatherings or special events. The Village also has developed a walking and bike path system to encourage pedestrian and bicycle movement between developments, linking them to schools and parks. The village has longer term plans to eventually connect this path system with the McHenry County Conservation District's Prairie Trail.
Having open space and recreational facilities for our residents to enjoy is a priority for the village. As the Village of Johnsburg develops we will continue to dedicate land for this use. Currently, local sports organizations provide baseball, softball, soccer and football leagues for all ages. The Village sponsors the McHenry Area Youth Commission, which provides other recreational activities for children. Don't forget about the 3.5 miles of waterfront on the Fox River and Chain O'Lakes where boating and fishing are paramount to our residents. Take a short drive and enjoy other activities at such places as Wilmot Mountain Ski Resort, Chain O'Lakes State Park, Moraine Hills State Park and the Volo Bog.
Additionally, our Community Affairs committee is focused on providing events and programs for entertainment and to support community involvements. Past programs have included music festivals for our younger population, basketball tournaments and even a bike rodeo. There are annual events such as the Johnsburg Area Business Expo and Craft Show sponsored by the Business Association and Saufen Und Spiel sponsored by our local Community Club. See the Community Calendar on this web site for information concerning upcoming programs.
Park Shelter Fees
The Village Board approved Ordinance 11-12-07, an ordinance which establishes fees for the use of park shelters. The ordinance was established in an effort to offset park maintenance costs. Refundable deposits will also be required to cover the soct of cleanup should the party reserving the shelter fail to clean up after their event. Park shelter fees will go into effect in Spring of 2012. CLICK HERE fo park rental fees and park permit application
