Letter from the Village President - 2024 Public Works Projects

Riverside Drive Improvement Project
Phase 1 of the long awaited Riverside Drive Improvement Project will soon be underway. This year’s improvements include the installation of concrete box culverts at the Dutch Creek bridge crossing, resurfacing of Riverside Drive (between Running Brook Farms subdivision and Johnsburg Road), and grading adjacent to the roadway in preparation for the multi-use path planned in Phase 2. During construction, motorist can expect temporary lane closures beginning May 1st and effective May 13th Riverside Drive will be CLOSED to thru-traffic from Running Brook Farm Blvd to Johnsburg Road to accommodate the replacement of the bridge culvert. Detour routes will be in place and traffic in and around the area will be limited to local traffic only in the 2800 - 3600 block addresses of Riverside Drive. Lane closures will continue once the bridge is complete to accommodate the remaining work. The project is expected to be substantially complete by Fall 2024. Further information will be provided as the project progresses. If you have any questions, please call the Village Hall at (815) 385-6023.

Bay Road & Spring Grove Road Resurfacing

Sunnyside Beach Road Improvement Project Closeout
Final work on the Sunnyside Beach Road Improvement Project will be completed this year. A walk through of the project area was conducted this week and a punch list is being developed to identify work that needs to be completed to wrap up the project.

Church Street Road Realignment Project
The Church Street Road Realignment Project will also be completed this summer. A walk-through of the project area will be conducted mid-May to identify any outstanding items that need to be addressed before the project is closed out.

2024 Road Program
Road evaluations are wrapping up for the 2024 Road Program. Once complete the Village will pursue bids for road resurfacing that will likely be scheduled for the Fall. Watch for more information regarding the Village’s 2024 Road Program in upcoming eBlasts.

Sewer River Extension
The extension of sewers under the river and installation of the East side regional lift station/pumping facility will soon begin. The project has been awarded to Joel Kennedy Constructing and materials are on order for the project. Construction is expected to begin the first week of June and will be substantially completed by the end of November. Following nearly 30 years of planning and programming of funds, we are finally able to complete this important piece of backbone infrastructure that will benefit a 125- acre service area made up of more than 500 homes and businesses. The project will also provide new development and redevelopment opportunities to nearly 50 acres of land on the East side of the river.

Johnsburg Road Soil Borings
Soil borings were recently completed in preparation for the resurfacing of Johnsburg Road between Fairview Avenue and Horizon Drive. Based upon the results of the boring, we will pursue an increased thickness of surface course to give the road a longer life expectancy. The resurfacing is scheduled for the 2025 construction season. Watch for more information regarding this project in future eBlasts.

Public Works Road Maintenance
The Public Works Department has already begun performing annual maintenance improvements throughout the Village. Annual maintenance includes topdressing shoulder gravel where needed, reshaping ditches and performing other stormwater improvements, sweeping streets, replacing street signs, performing road patching and replacing culverts. Watch for e-blast alerts throughout the construction season for information about full or partial lane closures that may be necessary to complete some of the work.

Note that timelines related to all projects are weather permitting and subject to change. Watch for  eBlasts for project impacts and scheduling changes. Please pay close attention to flaggers and construction signage, obey posted speed limits, and proceed cautiously while traveling in and around the work zones.
