Blowing Leaves into the Roadway - Prohibited!
The Johnsburg Public Works Department has noted an increase in residents blowing leaves from their yards into the roadway. Please note that depositing leaves in the roadway creates a public safety hazard and negatively impacts the Village's roads and stormwater systems. Depositing and burning leaves in ditches and along the road is also prohibited. These activities are a violation of both local and State regulations and violators will be cited. Click here Ch.12.02(B)(11) for further information.

Open Burning of Landscape Waste
Landscape waste may be burned on Saturdays and Sundays from dawn through dusk during the Fall months of October and November. The burning of landscape waste is permitted only when winds are less than 10 mph. The burning site must be a minimum of 100’ from any principal structure and supervised at all times by an individual at least 18 years of age. A fire extinguisher, garden hose or water source must be available at the burning site. Prohibited at all times is the burning of manure, garbage, construction materials, litter, grass clippings (eff. 10/5/2021) and etc...on any property.  We have seen and received multiple complaints of residents not complying with the ordinance, please be advised violators will be cited. Recreational fires and ceremonial fires are exempt but may not be larger than 3’x3’x3’ and cannot contain leaves, grass or shrubbery clippings. Click here for the requirements. The Village's residential refuse and recycling service includes the removal of up to 8 bags or cans of landscape waste per week. For more information visit www.lakesdisposal.com.

ComEd – Snow Reminder
This seems like an unusual early message to receive in the fall, but ComEd is already planning ahead for the winter months. Be aware that you may have ComEd transformers and/or switchgear on your property that may need to be accessed in the winter. Occasionally after a snowstorm, snow removal efforts will result in buried or blocked access to critical ComEd equipment. In order to be able to safely access their equipment when necessary, they need to ensure that there is at least ten feet of open space in front of the equipment’s cabinet doors. Additionally, they need a foot of clearance on the remaining three sides of the equipment. Click here for more information.
